New Project: Replace School-Bag

My school bag is beaten up. And when I say beaten up, I'm being kind. The lining on one of the interior pouches has worn completely off and you can see the padding.

I don't want to sacrifice the bag though! It's so practical and the cubbies are just the right size for my folders and college textbooks. Not to mention, it's messenger style and I just love it.

Then there's the factor of how hefty it is to be placed on one shoulder. So, what I decided was to buy materials, tear apart my current bag as a pattern and make modifications to improve on things I don't care about or add things that are more practical for me.

There will be buckles, duck canvas, belt strap material (that I can't remember their name of), zippers (two, I believe), and a nylon lining. We picked up the exterior fabric (duck canvas) in a solid navy blue and the nylon lining (inside) in a pretty gray. For padding on the various layers, we grabbed some sale fleece.

I'm nervous about using my first zippers, but I'm stoked about potentially undertaking a big task for me. It will be the first of this magnitude for me and that in itself is really exciting.

I'll post pictures of progress as I make it. And I hope I can form some sort of pattern from it! Here's to hoping, right?
