Kids Change Everything

Kids really do change everything. Tonight, B, C and I went out to dinner with my best friend, her significant other and her 7 month old daughter, Kyleigh. We went shopping at JoAnn's for some fabric (which is another rant altogether!) But we chose to go to dinner at Olive Garden.

Cole had finished eating a generous portion of his kids' mac and cheese, and even inhaled nearly two breadsticks (Do you believe my child isn't on the growth chart?!) and was very impatient about wanting to leave and stretch and play outside.

The adults were still chatting and slowly enjoying our meals. Cole took to sneaking under our booth table and giggling like a loon on a secret mission, with the occasional roar thrown in.

D, best friend's significant other, produced a wrapped hershey's kiss. Everyone questioned its' whereabouts. Turns out, Cole had found it under the table and gave it to D. B decided that Cole being under the table probably wasn't the best idea but after a lot of squealing and laughing, left him be under the table reluctantly.

A small while later, Cole tugged my leg and this conversation took place:

C: Mama, I want a candy.
Me: Cole, we'll get some candy later, okay?
C: I have green candy.
M: Where?
C: In my mouth! *opens mouth wide*

After a tiny bit of panic, I look inside his mouth and see nothing there. I tell the table what he said and everyone is in a mixed emotional state of laughter and worry. Cole comes running out the front of the table, holding Baby K's pacifier.

I notice that it's green. Could this be the green "candy" he put in his mouth? Best friend says she sure hopes so. Laughter.

Later still, D tells us that a little hand snaked over his side of the table trying to pick up the specifically placed Hershey Kiss.

C: I want candy.
D: No. This is my candy. You gave me this one.
C: *frowning but leaves it*

I laughed. My child is funny. But I think that no more table diving is allowed. Who knows what our toddler will find next!

PS I like to pretend that he did put the pacifier in his mouth. It's far better than him ingesting something no one else could identify. I'm very thankful he gave the chocolate he did find to an adult, and a responsible one at that. :)
